Technical introduction
  1. Waves:

Use a vertex shader and a height map to generate water surface to produce waves caused by water itself and waves caused by the character.

  1. Reflection & Refraction:

Use a vertex shader and a pixel shader to simulate effects of reflection and refraction seen above the water surface.
